Harriet Holt

For the last 10 years I have been growing flowers for sale. This is a small scale enterprise and the emphasis is on finding the best flowering plants for cutting that can be grown outside in the garden. Colour is very important to me and the cutting garden provides a colourful contrast to the surrounding landscape, especially in late summer.

I have been gardening in the area for many years, and for the last 17 have been developing and maintaining a long established garden/orchard of about an acre. It is a productive garden, and flowers, fruit and vegetables are carefully chosen for the contribution they make throughout the seasons. It is also the setting for my garden buildings.

I trained as an architect in London and worked in Essex and Cambridge for a number of years. Prior to that I researched nineteenth century agricultural improvement in upland areas for my PhD. I am a member of the Suffolk Gardens Trust 'Walled Kitchen Gardens Group', and last September opened my cutting garden for the Trust.
