Dek Mckinnon

Dek was born into a small crofting community on the Island of Isla, in the Western Isles of Scotland.  The family moved to the mainland where Dek worked in farming until joining the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders at the age of 18, to see the world beyond village life.  Then he was with the Royal Engineers, specialising in explosives, demolition and safety, and served in Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Afghanistan and Iraq, always maintaining his passion for rural life, and especially fishing.

Prior to leaving the army he re-qualified as a plumber but, settling in Suffolk, he took over running a small herd of five sheep, which has now grown to 140, and there are plans for more expansion in the near future when he takes over a small derelict farm of about 200 acres.
