Calligraphy for beginners & improvers - your choice of script

Calligraphy for Beginners and Improvers Your choice of Script A day to discover the pleasure of writing with a broad edged pen.  Beginners can start with the Uncial Script , a beautiful hand written by an accomplished scribe in England, before 716 AD! By the end of the day each student will be able to write out a short quotation using some colour and decoration. Improvers can try variations on this script; or bring some "work in hand" to discuss any design problems; or sharpen any script of your choice.  This is the perfect pastime for a winter's evening.

Please bring any calligraphy equipment you already have, especially old brushes for paint mixing, and better ones for painting. [All quite small, under no.3]

The essentials will be for sale as listed below, including suitable papers for your short quote, as well as paints and inks for you to use.

Do bring any words you would particularly like to write out, but I will bring some words/quotes too.

I WILL BRING THESE ITEMS TO SHARE, but if you have any do bring them (please look at the What to Bring section before attending the class).

A real eye-opener; a whole new world, beginning with early Christian script with a modern interpretation.  Great start to a whole new area of interest.

This course was great fun and an opportunity to explore new things.

Wonderful, peaceful and rewarding day.  Will recommend.  Thank you.  Jan G.

Jan, the tutor, was friendly, patient and inspiring, leading us gently from the initial steps to the more complicated.  It’s good to learn some of the tricks of the trade

Wonderful course and food.

Everyone was so welcoming and the course members were very friendly and interesting – so no worries about here on my own!  Teresa

I feel inspired to learn more.  Course facilities great as usual, beautiful setting.

Generally a very good day for understanding more about calligraphy.  Sue S.

Wonderful hospitality and beautiful environment.  Thank you.  Pauline S.

This course was everything I hoped it would be. The course tutor was extremely knowledgable, calm and patient and everybody was able to proceed at their own speed depending on how much experience they had. In addition, the surroundings were beautiful, the organisers friendly and the lunch was delicious!  Lorraine
