Nature, Health & Place
The focus of this course is to learn all the latest on nature and its impact on our health. Award-winning author, Jules Pretty, will lead the day, drawing on evidence he and colleagues have developed at the University of Essex. Green exercise is now well-established; green mind theory is the latest explanations from neuroscience on how our behaviours and habits can be shaped for happiness and longevity.
All participants will receive a free and signed copy of The East Country: Almanac Tales of Valley and Shore (2017). The book is centred on the Stour Valley on the Suffolk and Essex borders. If participants already have this book, an alternative will be available (This Luminous Coast, or The Edge of Extinction).
The course will comprise a mix of presentations and group discussions, readings from The East Country, wildlife walking and talking, and optional tai chi (led by Jules Pretty).
What to Bring
Comfortable clothing and especially shoes as we shall be doing an optional tai chi session with Jules Pretty, as well as walking in the countryside.
