Introduction to falconry

This is an Introduction to Falconry day course run by Alec Shearer, a falconer who has had a passion for these birds for a lifetime (click on his name above to see more about him). Anybody that is interested in, or has a passion for wildlife, countryside and birds of prey, will find this course most rewarding and interesting.  A fun and relaxing day in the company of several birds of prey, and like-minded people.   See below for the course content.

Falconry is the art of supplying meat for the table by using a bird of prey.  This has been going on for some 4000 years plus and was thought to originate in the Far East.

There is so much to learn regarding the management and flying free your chosen bird.  It is an introduction as to whether you would like to just learn more or maybe another step closer in getting your own bird.

Very well presented and very informative.  Presenter very friendly and easy going.  Birds were very lovely.  Would highly recommend to anyone.  Facilities were wonderful.  Lunch was absolutely yummy!  Soup was gorgeous.

Absolutely engaging from start to finish.   The opportunity to experience the handling of birds and to see them in flight was very rewarding.  Beautiful setting and the hosts very welcoming and great food.

Course was extremely interesting and informative, and very enjoyable.  Facilities and catering were excellent too.

Excellent course, very informative.  Only slight criticism is that there is so much to learn!  Very good introduction though.

It was wonderful to see a barn owl, eagle owl, harris hawk, peregrine falcon and saker at close quarters.

Wonderful day overall, fantastic basic intro to falconry – plenty of time with the birds too.  All information given was interesting and relevant to description of course, and a lovely informal day.  Food was excellent.  Thank you so much – I hope to be back for another course, or this same one, soon.  Jess E

Very happy with an informative, practical course, capped with excellent food.

A thoroughly enjoyable, informative and very rewarding day.  Penny S-S.

Very enjoyable day.  Made to feel at ease with everything the day offered.  CSS

Lunch was delicious.  Surroundings were great.  A very enjoyable day, doing something different!  Andrea J.

Two day course would be beneficial – 1 day class, 1 day practical.

So amazing to be able to see the 3 falcons and 2 owls at such close quarters, and the two baby owls were absolutely adorable.

A great day, food was great along with the people.  Would come again.  Lee

Very informative so left having learned many things that I didn’t know previously.  Graham D.

Really enjoyed meeting, holding and flying the birds.
