Stained glass for beginners

Using the Tiffany (copper foiling) technique of stained glass, you'll be introduced to the basic skills of cutting and grinding glass, foiling, soldering and finishing.  We will start with a small warm-up project, quickly followed by a hanging glass panel - approximately A4 size.

The course will be suitable for beginners and improvers as everyone will work on their individual projects.  There will be a range of designs available to choose from, but help will be there for you to design your own simple panel.  If anyone already has a design, they would be encouraged to email an image of their idea in advance of the course to ensure suitability of design and suitable available materials.

NB:  When this course is full, please ask to go on the reserve list by ringing Anne on 01787 229955 or email [email protected]

COMMENTS  FROM  PAST  PARTICIPANTS:

This has been a wonderful experience in an idyllic setting where the view from the windows as we worked at our stained glass pictures was full of lovely trees just coming into bloom along with daffodils and primroses. The experience was rounded off by delicious lunch each day with the owners in their large kitchen enjoying home cooked food. The company was also interesting and conversation covered a range of topics. How pleased I was to find that the owners had visited Guyana and being more adventurous than us locals, tramped through the jungle! Thanks for a total experience and of course to Naomi who ran the course. A great teacher.  Sulsie M.

The setting and atmosphere for the course is idyllic in it’s own secret valley, and the home-made food is delicious. The hospitality is warm and friendly with lunch being served in Anne & Bob’s home, as good as any restaurant.  Naomi Brangwyn gave excellent tuition, demonstrating the skills and supporting individual participants as they needed throughout. As a complete beginner I needed quite a bit of help and felt that perhaps I would not be able to produce anything that I could take home. However with Naomi's help I did, and am pleased with the result. Thoroughly enjoyable weekend  - thank you.  Chris

Naomi was the perfect teacher for beginners:  patient, kind and very clear with her explanations and instructions.  I found the copper foil method much easier to grasp than the one that uses lead cames, and was pleased with the result.  Interesting to have an insight on how to cut and grind glass, and to solder.  A very absorbing and creative weekend.

I am writing to let you know how much I enjoyed the copper foiling class last weekend.  Naomi is a fantastic teacher, who obviously considered mistakes previous students had encountered  and was able to verbalise these mishaps very well to make our lessons in copper foiling more successful.   I think Naomi was able to assess the ability of each student  and assist accordingly,  without taking over.   I was delighted with my art deco style lamp screen, I find it quite unbelievable that I achieved making such a beautiful object, I feel very proud of it!   I loved the setting too, the views out on to the surrounding area are truly inspiring.   Thank you for taking such good care of us, allowing us to help ourselves to tea and coffee etc  throughout the day.  Finally, I must say, you spoiled us at lunch time, the table was an array of colour with beautifully presented food which tasted divine.   I’ll be checking out your website for the recipes – thanks again!   I would recommend Assington Mill  Courses to anyone, as for me, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.  The setting and the food alone are enough to make me want to return, without doing a course.  Michelle L.

Can’t believe what we all achieved in two days.  Naomi’s approach suits a class like this as works with you as an individual and gives support and encouragement.  So please I booked this course.  Has really helped me on my journey of living with another health episode.  Anne & Bobs’ hospitality is fantastic.  Made very welcome and the food is fantastic.  Wonderful idea to provide lunch for us all; to have a break and get to know each other.  Thank you Naomi, Bob & Anne

A superb first step towards making my own stained glass.  Its definitely given me the bug to learn and do more with regards to all aspects of glass crafting.  Jane C.

Lot to pack into two days but end result worth all the effort.  Lovely group, brilliant hosts, food delicious.  Thank you to Naomi, Bob and Anne for an excellent weekend.

Found the whole experience very rewarding and would recommend this course.  The food was excellent and thank you for looking after us so well.

Fantastic two days, under-estimated the time it would take, a totally enthralling experience, great people with like-minded interests.

Heard about at the open day.  Teacher’s motivation and time-keeping was good.  Should have thought about the design before coming.  Two days was barely enough time for the scope of the course.

Brilliant weekend, we all achieved so much, thank you.

Thank you both for your excellent hospitality over the weekend and for a most rewarding course....tremendous experience, and a very wise tutor.  Adrian M
