GETTING TO ASSINGTON MILL
Postcode: CO10 5LZ
Grid reference: TL936368
By Car
Via the A12: from London, take the first turning off to Colchester, then follow signs to the A134 to Sudbury. Continue for some five miles. When you see the white water tower on top of the hill, after the turning to Nayland, look out for signs to Assington village, on the left. Continue down the main street, past the pub, past the farm shop. When you reach the garage, slow down and do not take either of the sharp bends left or right to Stoke and Bures. Instead, take the farm track which is the continuation of the main street. Assington Mill is half a mile down there. Beware of traffic calming potholes!
Alternatively, you could turn off onto the A120, at Junction 25, just before Colchester, and take the first turn right, just after Poplar Nurseries, then to Great Tey as described below, which is a much nicer way to come.
Via the M11, A120: Follow signs to Colchester. Once past Coggeshall, look out for the Marks Tey village sign. Take the road soon after that to Great Tey and Chappel going north. Continue through Great Tey, straight across the main road at Chappel towards Bures. At the T-junction at the bottom of the hill, turn left in the direction of Sudbury. In Bures, cross the river, church on the right, turn left up the main street, then fork right at the top of the street to Assington, which is about three miles away. Once you come to the Assington village sign, take the farm track almost immediately on your right. Assington Mill is half a mile down there.

National Rail: 0845 7484950, Chambers bus co: 01787 227233
Alternatively, if you ring 01206 577777 when you pass Marks Tey station, a taxi will pick you up and take you to Assington for about £17. This is cheaper than getting a normal cab from outside the station. We would be happy to take you back to the station at the end of the day, but not at the beginning as there is too much to do!
Bures station is much nearer (we always go this way because it's such a joy to use the two-coach service to Sudbury) but you have to change at Marks Tey and the trains are not so frequent. If you don't fancy the three-mile walk, you would need a taxi from there.
